It was politicians, patrons, and lovers of the all things historic at the recent reception at William Vareika Fine Arts on fashionable Bellevue Avenue in Newport, Rhode Island. A new art exhibition, "Historic New England," featuring works by artists ranging from Gilbert Stuart to Andy Warhol examining a wide range of New England subjects, were examined closely by guests, as violinists played classical and Baroque works in the gallery's lofty spaces.
The afternoon event, hosted by Alison and Bill Vareika, drew such guests as Karl Nold, Executive Director HNE, Vicky Kruckeberg of the Dedham, Massachusetts Historical Society, Providence Mayor and Congressional candidate David Cicilline, gubernatorial candidate Lincoln Chafee and his wife Stephanie, Newport Mayor Jean Napolitano, Dodo Hamilton, Angela Fischer, Oatsie Charles, Bill and Cole Hicks, and new honorary member of HNE Sandra Ourusoff.
