Super-ior! The Only Word for the Second Annual SuperYacht Rendezvous

Was it the French Riviera, where insouciant billionaires gather with their

extravagant, beautiful yachts and "hop" between vessels? Or was it really Newport, Rhode Island?

As the seven yachts docked at Newport Shipyard transported guests to

to a filmic fantasy of international seagoing luxury, the event supported

the local Boys and Girls Clubs and delighted hundreds of guests.

The Gloria flaunted its show business connections with a cutout of 007 at the gangplank entrance, and the spirit of owner Pete Townshend, of  The Who, (yes that's who), was represented by Tommy, the Englishman with a patch over one eye and a delightful accent.  And the martinis on board were shaken, not stirred.

The sight of the elegant visitors doffing their shoes to go aboard each yacht (highly polished floors, you know) was delightful, and visitors surged from yacht to yacht, partaking of delicious hors d'oeuvres, champagne and margaritas, dazzled by the interiors, fixtures, furnishings and the vessels' astonishing engineering.  Visiting yachts were Gravitas, Gigi II, Centinela IV, Gloria, Meteor, Alexander and Aventura, staffed and stunning.

Kim Herrlinger, founder of this extravaganza (sponsored by Peter deSavary, former owner of Gloria), created an event that is unique for this event-busy town.  Modeled after a European event, transported first to Fort Lauderdale, the Newport event has become a dinner dance and auction held all in one evening at the Shipyard.  The tent was beautifully decorated, nautical--but nice.  The silent auction elicited bidding, and the live auction featured an autographed guitar by Adam Levine of Maroon 5 and "The Voice", a  private Caribbean Castle in Grenada, West Indies, a Champagne & Canape Cruise aboard Pete Townshend's Yacht Gloria, and a one year membership to the Hermitage Club, Vermont.

Everyone in the sailing and philanthropic communities of Newport was there, dancing to the Mac Chrupcala band. Newport Seen caught up with the  models from the recent Angela Moore fashion show (Angelistas), Rick Bready and Betty Easton, former Ralph Lauren model Morgan O'Connor, Joe Paolino, Jonathan Pardee, Donald O. Ross, Sherry and Mark Brice, Alice Lynch,  Joe Mele and Victoria Leiter Mele, and Dr. David and Candy Keefe.  Among many others. Stacie Mills, Carol O'Malley and Patti Rakolta served as event Co-chairs.
