On land and on sea, the fifth annual summer fundraising party for Oliver Hazard Perry Rhode Island (OHPRI) raised over $100,000 for its education-at-sea programs. Held at Newport Shipyard, the event celebrated SSV Oliver Hazard Perry’s inaugural ocean passages to Cuba and Bermuda this Spring as well as the non-profit organization’s continued commitment to providing, for all ages, “innovative and empowering education-at-sea programs to promote personal and professional growth.”

Enjoying this year’s “Experience, Education, Exploration” theme, approximately 350 guests were treated to passed hors d’oeuvres, cocktails (including “The Oliver Hazard Pear-y and Fizz” signature beverage), and a fresh seafood raw bar on Newport Shipyard’s checkered esplanade before heading under the great tent for dinner, auctions and dancing to the band Honky Tonk Knights.

The 200-foot SSV Oliver Hazard Perry was dockside for the event; however, high winds made her difficult to board. Tours the next morning at Fort Adams were offered to all who attended.
