Summer in Full Swing at the 19th Annual IYRS Gala

The workshop floor at the International Yacht Restoration School is usually full of eager students sanding and shaping their shipbuilding projects. But on a warm summer night in July, the students handed the floor of Restoration Hall over to the 670 revelers at the 19th Annual IYRS Summer Gala. Cocktail hour and a silent auction in the hall was followed by dinner, a live auction, and a performance by singer/songwriter Jackson Browne, who kept guests dancing late into the evening.

A silent auction and cocktail hour in Resotration Hall began the event

Guests took to the “jewels and jeans” theme of the night, decked out in their casual best. Items up for grabs at the silent auction included artwork from local photographer Onne Van Der Wal, a ticket package from Newport Polo, a villa rental from Wimco Villas, and passes to the Bohdi spa.

At the live auction, hosted by C. Hugh Hildesley, senior auctioneer and 55-year veteran of Sotheby’s, attendees bid on private boat charters in the Bahamas and British Virgin Islands, beautiful jewelry from Three Golden Apples, and other big ticket items.

“This was a game changing weekend for IYRS,” says Terry Nathan, President. “We broke ground on a new facility, the board of trustees endorsed plans to double enrollment and our annual party was an opportunity to reaffirm our direction to our new and closest friends.”
