Star Kids Gala, “Imagine That”, Unimaginably Successful

Posters of Star Kids

It is always a joyous, spontaneous evening, as friends, sponsors, staffers, well-wishers, donors and volunteers  come together to celebrate and support the fine work of the Star Kids Scholarship program.

And yes, the Star Kids were there in force this year, celebrating another year of success of the agency’s far-reaching programs.  Imagine that!

Karen Flanagan & James Powell

Crowding into the spacious rooms of Ochre Court were 240 guests, who helped raise $105,000 for the agency’s work through the Wine & Dine Raffle (winners were  Antena and Miles David, and the scholarship auction.

As soon as the band Decades by Dezyne began to play, couples began to dance. The energy was infectious, the hors d’oeuvres excellent, and the spirit of giving endemic.

The mission of the Star Kids Scholarship Program is to provide educational opportunities in the form of tuition aid to effective non-public schools, uniforms, after-school and summer programs, tutoring and mentoring for those high risk, low-income children who have a parent with a history of incarceration and/or substance abuse. Star Kids’ goal for each child is to graduate from high school and hopefully going on to higher education, these children will have a greater chance of breaking the intergenerational cycle of poverty, drug use, disease, depression and violence.
