Friends of Ballard Park
celebrated several milestones at its Annual Fundraiser, the first being the 25th anniversary of the donation of Ballard Park to the City of Newport by Carol C. Ballard.

Host Les Ballard

Hosted on the lawn of the Ballard family’s beautiful Newport estate, Edgehill, the party's host Les Ballard personally selected the wines from his famous cellar.   A dozen of his friends from Texas enjoyed mingling with Newporters like Captain and Mrs. Nicholas Brown, Martha Hunnewell, Jack Grace, Charlie and Patti Hayes, Jay Page, Jonathan and Bettie Pardee, and John Richmond.

Friends of Ballard Park’s board chair Peggy Richmond told the crowd that 2016 was the organization’s most successful year to date, with 3,500 people visiting its 11th Annual Illuminated Garden in February and more than 700 children scheduled to take educational field trips to Ballard Park in June.

Liz Stouffer and Frank Amaral

Executive director Colleen McGrath noted that they were also celebrating the 20th anniversary of  the formation of the Friends of Ballard Park and how it was touching to see founding board members Ginny Purviance, Mary Hayes, Frank Amaral and his wife, Liz Stouffer, in attendance.

Myra Karahalis, Emily Loftus, Anne Jenkins and Elizabeth Plowden

The lovely Jenkins sisters – Elizabeth, Emily, Myra and Anne – represented their father David, owner of Jenkins Construction Company and long-time, title sponsor of the MUSIC MONTH concert series which opens on July 6th with a performance by The Navy Band Northeast.  Other longtime supporters in attendance included Kiki Finn, David and Leslie Reed and Ken and Tia Scigulinsky.
