Rhode Island Real Estate Jewels Encircled by Alex and Ani

Historic Belcourt Castle

How do the "Ladies of Lila" do it? Now three of them, Melanie Delman, Robin Nicholson and Susan Gustavson have negotiated the sale of Sakonnet Vineyards in Little Compton, hot on the heels of the recent sale by Lila Delman Real Estate of Bellevue Avenue's historic Belcourt Castle, erected by Oliver Hazard Perry Belmont  in 1894, and lived in with his wife, Alva Vanderbilt Belmont. The august, sprawling, medieval-style  mansion, designed by Richard Morris Hunt, sold in November.

Lila Delman listed the Vineyard in 2010 at $8,950,000, and it just achieved the highest sale price in Little Compton in the last two years, according to RI’s statewide MLS service. Though the oh-so-discreet real estate agency declined to name the buyer on both transactions, it was bruited about early on that both properties were clasped by the founder and owner of  Alex and Ani of Cranston, RI. CEO of A&A Giovanni Feroce promised earlier this year that "big things are coming" for the company, which started as a jewelry maker and now bills itself as a "lifestyle, eco-friendly brand."

Melanie Delman remarked, “This was such an exciting project for us at Lila Delman because it allowed us to utilize so many areas of our expertise. Commercial, agricultural, residential development, conservation land – this extraordinarily complex property demanded highly specialized real estate knowledge on many fronts. We are gratified to have been able to deliver such a successful result. The Little Compton area is amongst my personal favorite places in Rhode Island, and it’s very satisfying to have taken a hand in shaping its future.”

The award-winning, bucolic winery, which comprises some 170 acres of vineyards, open space and a state-of-the art winery facility, was founded in 1975 and is today recognized as a crucial pioneer of the New England wine industry. Idyllically sited overlooking beautiful Patchet Brook Reservoir, the property comprises 102 conservancy-protected acres of vineyards, including a winery, hospitality center, and open space, with another 67 acres set aside for the development of 5 luxury residential estates.

Real estate recession? Not at Lila Delman, which has also recently listed an extraordinary 13-building commercial package in the neighboring historic village of Tiverton Four Corners, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. The area has been designated as a RI tax-free Arts District.

And for 2013?  Stay tuned for more fabulous properties and the fascinating people who list and buy through Lila Delman Real Estate!
