Newport Art Museum Artists Ball: Mild Decadence, High Art, Mysterious Masks

Welcome!

Like a blending of a slightly jaded, mysterious Venetian Ball and an elegant New York downtown soirée, the Newport Art Museum’s Artists Ball raised the standard for Newport parties to outrageously wonderful.

Ruth Taylor,     & and NAM Director Norah Diedrich

Crowded with unrecognizable figures in fantastic masks, the Ball included an exhibition, the Newport Sexx Festival (gasp), a George Condo art display curated by honoree  Dodie Kazanjian, and a filmic light show(think psychodelic and mixed media) by famed artist Tony Oursler in its own small tent, The event honored New York writers Dodie Kazanjian (Vogue) and Calvin Tomkins (The New Yorker).

Thomas & Erin Ribeiro with their Clothing gallery from Rib & Rhein

The dinner tent was decorated in a devilish red, the silent auction tent featured a gorgeous display of expensive jewelry by David Rovinsky, and a exquisite fashion display of gowns by Atelier Swarovski X and other designers in the Igenfritz Gallery was created by Rib & Rhein, was its own art.  The massive crystalline chandelier escaped the bounds of symmetry, as did the fashion. And that of the guests.

John Horton & Laura Gorham

Metropolitan Opera stars Michelle Bradley and Sophia Munoz sang from the staircase at unannounced intervals.

The live auction item, a limited edition porcelain service by Anna Weatherly, made in honor of Ms Kazanjian, was on display in the Museum’s Drury Gallery.  Exquisite and rare.

Seen were???    Only when they unmasked, or we asked,  were we able to match names to guests.

Bravo to the Newport Art Museum for a brilliantly conceived evening.
