New Venue, New Taste Sensations at Child & Family’s “Taste of Newport”

C&F President & CEO Marty Sinnott

The 34rd annual annual delicious extravaganza of food and drink that raises funds for the programs of Child & Family Services delighted an overflow crowd with taste treats from nearly every restaurant and food purveyor in Newport.

A laden silent auction table

Victor Sandman, guitarist-singer

Held at The Atlantic Resort, the capacious room welcomed visitors of all ages (youngest a babe in arms), and  eschewed the earlier sit down gourmet dinner for an expanded vendor program. And the silent auctions were numerous, interesting, varied, and for all ages.

Greeting people at the door was Ann Arnold, with Landa Patterson on hand, as music by gifted guitarist-singer Victor Sandman (also a physical therapist) sang tunes from his solo album “First Impressions”.

President and CEO Marty Sinnott was speaking with guests, and Bespoke clothier Marc Streisand, of Marc Allen Fine Clothier made a fashionable entrance. Mr. Sinnott spoke about the agency’s Foster Care Program, a key beneficiary of 2017 event proceeds, and of the severe shortage of foster parents in Rhode Island, particularly on Aquidneck Island.

Mia Breuer of Pennfield School, a volunteer

Newport area’s top restaurants, confectioners, caterers and beverage vendors participated, their chefs and other culinary staff presented guests with appetizers, entrées, desserts or libation tasting samples during the festive, cocktail party-style event. A live auction, orchestrated by guest auctioneer Paul Leys, on unique packages, including a getaway to a Tuscan villa and the opportunity to attend a Boston Celtics basketball game with the team’s co-owner was energetic and competitive.

Delights from (l.) Lucia Restaurant & (r.) La Forge

Among the twenty-eight culinary participants at the 34th Annual “Taste of Newport” were veteran supporters, Chef Richard Silvia from the White Horse Tavern, T.R. McGrath of McGrath’s Clambakes & Catering, and Christopher Bender and David Crowell from Stoneacre Brasserie and Stoneacre Tapas.  First-time culinary participants welcomed to “Taste of Newport” included Chef Steven Kalble and his students from the Newport Area Career & Technical Center Culinary Arts Program, which operates The Colonial Dining Room restaurant on the Rogers High School campus in Newport.

The lively event raised $80,000 for the agency’s programs.
