It is the ne plus ultra of New York Designer Show Houses, and the 10th Annual Holiday House was innovative, modern, traditional, inspiring — all at once. The premier event of the holiday season, it featured programs and smashing rooms — and inspiration.

The history lies in the gorgeous book, Holiday House -- Ten Years Decorating for a Cure, compiled by beautiful founder Iris Dankner, showing the iterations and innovations that the architecturally stunning  Academy Mansion, on Manhattan’s East 63rd Street, has hosted.

Tradition also lies in the returning designers, the Showhouse Committee, and the support for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Ms. Dankner is a survivor, and has put her considerable talents to work for others. To celebrate Holiday House's 10th year, she has launched the new Holiday House London .

And it is always a Who’s Who of the design world: Design Chair Thom Filicia, Honorary Chair Christopher Hyland, ASID Chairs Bjorn Bjornsson and Kim Radovich, Campion Platt, former Newporter  Ally Coulter, and icon Geoffrey Bradfield.

The palette this year was neutral, with lots of black and white, grey and beige in the designer’s rooms (Diana Sylvaria of 59 Studio Newport, which offer interior design services, fine home furnishing, accents and accessories, carefully surveyed her favorite rooms.)  An interesting walk- in closet was transformed by Rio Hamilton into a “Memories” room, with pictures of past Holiday Houses and their designers, visited by almost everyone.  The three rooms on the main floor flowed together, a first, as if a single owner lived there:  the divine main floor parlor room by S. Russell Groves, furnished with Roche Bobois , a Casino room, called “New Year’s Eve“ by Sarah Magness,  with bar and card games, and the elegant dining room by Kim Radovich.

The Courtyard was tented, and featured a jam ensemble and its own singing designer Anna Maria Mannarino.

Outstanding on the second floor was the exotic study of Patrick Lönn “Out of Africa”, just moved over from London, with Hermés walls, and the extraordinary black and white kitchen of Young Hoh Interiors, white intersected by geometric black lines, stunning.

Charles j. Naife’s second floor ante room feature marvelous color and a Venetian style wall hanging, an a luxe sitting room with arresting designs by Robin Baron.

James Rixner on this floor had a colorful salon, and s sitting room was a muted, zen-like retreat, complete with mandolin player.  We saw Ms. Sylvaria talking with Lucinda Loya in her striking, bold sitting room.

Bjorn Bjornsson, President of the New York Metropolitan area’s ASID, transformed the 4th floor into a “Happy Holiday Lounge”, complete with pool table and giant TV, and reached by ascending winding stairs with fascinating trompe l’oeil wallpaper.

Holiday House is a New York design treasure, a do- not -miss, and will be on view until December 6.  For tickets and information, go to www.HolidayHousenyc.com
