In the Pink (and Green), Angela Moore Fashion Show Defines Newport Style

Ashley Bickford in the quintessential Newport look

In a veritable symphony of pink and green, including a tent festooned with pink tennis balls, the 12th annual Angela Moore fashion show at the International Tennis Hall of Fame brought out a record number of fashion buffs and members of what has become a "family" of models and attendees, all working to benefit the Hall of Fame and its programs.

As always, the inimitable Bud Collins was there, modeling his own collection of colorful pants, and former Miss Rhode Island Ashley Bickford and Miss  Rhode Island Teen Ivy Shen  joined long-time models Ross Cann, Barbara Bohan, Carolyn van Petten, Susan Noel and others. Two dashing young tournament contenders, Michael Yani and Denis Kudla, escorted models, wore the perfect Newport summer young gentlemen's outfits, and shared amusing tennis stories about their experiences in Newport, RI – including Yani's falling into the Bay after a rowdy night on the town five years previously. The players met the next day in the quarter-finals of the Tournament.

The  social event took place during the Campbell's Hall of Fame Tennis Tournament, and featured Angela Moore's own designs, and fashions from Lilly Pulitzer, Manuel Canovas, Christopher Blue, Julie Brown, Jack Rogers, Dolce Vita shoes, Moyna bags, Onigo hats and others. The runway parade began with casual day wear then moved to swimwear, which included stylish swimsuits, cover-ups and accessories for the beach and pool, then on to elegant evening attire. Mrs. Moore and her husband Gary Moore have almost patented what is the oh-so-correct Newport style (which they move to Palm Beach's Worth Avenue in the winter,) including swimwear, terrific hats, cocktail couture, colorful accessories, jazzy beaded sandals, hip bags and cashmere wraps. Fila was represented in tennis clothing.

Sponsors, including Swarovski Crystal, who donated raffle prizes, which went to delighted winners, and were delivered by 2011 Miss Rhode Island Teen, Ivy Shen.

The cast of the incomparable Angela Moore Fashion Show

Barbara Bohan's granddaughters Elizabeth and Cecilia Bohan were adorable, Kathryn Farrington was sassy, Carolyn van Petten and Ashley Bickford looked breathtaking, and Ross Cann was the perfect Newport sport. The young gentlemen Chuck and Daniel Sullivan ( Bohan grandsons!) struck just the right note in apparel and modeling, the champagne brunch was delicious, the mood festive. Frank Carpano, Sports Director of   WJAR-TV, chatted amiably with Angela while wife Kathy, and daughters Francesca and Isabella modeled.

Seen in the audience were the "Ladies of Lila", including leading lady Melanie Delman, Anita (Mrs. Bud) Collins, Hall of Fame inductee Peachy Kellmeyer, Barbara Georgescu, Ruth Orthwein, Ellen Barnes, Joyce Lineberry, Pamela O'Connor, Vieve Rozansky, Mark Stenning, Vincent Scolera, and Reinhard Mackinger, V.P., North America of Swarovski.

After the show, attendees raced to the Angela Moore shop to take advantage of a $15 discount ticket, giving it the air of a tres chic Marx Brothers movie. Many were wearing  a rhinestone Swarovski bracelet received as a table favor.
