From Blizzard Outside to Wonderland Inside, Newport Art Museum Vanquishes Winter with a Glistening Party

Exquisite and enchanting, The Newport Art Museum’s A Midwinter White Party was a lively event hosted by Kristen Coates and Chris Wyllie, the chairs of the Museum’s Contemporaries Committee. The event is sure to become a Museum staple each year now, that no one will want to miss. Snowshoes, anyone?

The John N.A. Griswold house was decorated spectacularly with multiple rooms for the party, each presenting something unique and entertaining. The spacious dance room was a stage for wild terpsichorean activity, with a a magnificent performance on the dance floor to start off the festivities with talented dancers, some of them in roller skates. Food and desserts lined a bar surrounding the dance floor, allowing continous indulgence.

The Kendell Seafood Ice Lounge and Bar area, where specialty cocktails for the event were being served, was spectacular, and crowded! Closet Revival hosted a pop up shop during the party with gorgeous vintage attire and accessories for the guests to peruse and purchase.

Multiple raffles were taking place in the Winter Games Room: one raffle involved playing a game where one would roll the winter dice to win the

amazing prizes, which were valued at around $1,500-$2,000. Another was for a chance to win a Mini Cooper!

Finishing the décor was a photo booth in the shape of an igloo with props so that the quests could commemorate the event, and winter, in a fun and silly way. With snowflakes, crystals, papier-mâché deer heads, an igloo and so much more one can only imagine what could come about next year.

Nearly  200 guests showed for the event, all dressed to the nines in beautiful white wear and all able to help the museum raise $15,000 to benefit its education, exhibitions, and historic preservation efforts and programming.

Seen were Allison Schumann, Lisa Goddard with husband, Tom and daughter, Caroline, Brian Doctor Love Sullivan, Sandy Nesbitt, Rupert Nesbitt, and Rebecca Kelly.
