Exquisite Tableau at Preservation Society’s 2017 Christmas Dinner Dance

Co-Chairs Kathy Irving & Elizabeth Leatherman

"Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful
." -- Norman Vincent Peale

It is all so familiar, yet new each year:  the magnificent decorations, the stunning poinsettia tree, the charming tables, the dancing and music in the music room of The Breakers, Newport’s quintessential mansion.

And yet this year was especially lovely, as Co-chairs Elizabeth Leatherman and  Kathy Irving  greeted guests at the door on a wintry evening.  New faces and old met, interacted, toasted, dined and and danced, and it was Christmas in Newport once again.

The  number of guests to the always sold out event increases each year.  In this decade, the revelers spilled into Cornelius Vanderbilt’s dining room, until it was as packed as the main room.  Newport Seen saw only one kilt this year, honoring Scottish heritage, on Torre Peterson.  Also seen were revelers Bert and Jane Lippincott, Molly de Ramel, Carol Rosenberg, dancers Dana and Jen-Pierre Dubreui, and Mikki MIcarelli and Brian Robinson, and perennial attendees Joseph and Diane Oerdefer,  Garry and Angela Fischer, John and Elizabeth Brooks. Executive Director Trudy Coxe spoke with Beverly Little, who will oversee the upcoming 2018 Coaching Weekend.

After dinner, spirited dancing in the music room to the Mac Chrupcala Orchestra went on and on.

It was indeed a holiday night to remember.
