Elegant Garden Party Given at Rough Point by the NRF

Welcome to the garden

Ladies in flowered hats, gentleman in straw boaters, iced tea and lemonade, croquet and music in the garden brought back memories of another era at the Newport Restoration Foundation’s recent “Garden Fete".

The check in table at magnificent Rough Point

Held at magnificent Rough Point, the estate of the late Doris Duke,  the afternoon event included a tour of of the mansion for those who wanted to see and revel in  the lovely rooms and the exhibit.

Meanwhile, a competitive game of croquet took place on the front lawn, and a trio of gentlemen played music on a lovely afternoon. Only the absence of teacakes, finger sandwiches, and wine set it apart from yesteryear.

Paying homage to Mr. Mrs. F.W. Vanderbilt's 1905  garden party, which netted $16, 432.14 for the Society for the Relief and Prevention of Tuberculosis in Newport,  the Garden Fête eschewed elaborate booths for

the sun, music, and out of doors.

Seen were Elizabeth Stubbs,  Kristin McMannis, Amy Bruni, Brian Trapp, Lisa Valentine, Leah Poole, Lisa Oliver, and Interim Executive Director of the NRF Wendy Nicholas.
