Distinguished 11th Newport Antiques Show Draws Connoisseurs — and Former Love Children!

Bev Palmer & Norey Cullen, Preview Party Co-Chairs

The opening night of the acclaimed Newport Antiques Show is one of the highly anticipated events of the summer season, attended by lovers of the beautiful, fine and rare.  With guests that are the glitterati of the Newport social scene, it is held in the spacious ice rink at St. George’s School (the only ice being the jewelry) and is an event.

This year, the show welcomed new and past dealers, new guests, old art and old and exquisite furniture, sculptural objects and books, and included a lecture by Elliot Landy, photographer and chronicler of Woodstock and the 60’s generation, prompting a redefinition of what is an antique, perhaps?  It is also the first year that the show benefited two Newport organizations, the Newport Historical Society and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Newport County—supporting Newport’s past and Newport’s future.

Established in 2007, The Newport Antiques Show is one of the nation’s premier antiques venues, presenting a wide selection of important Americana antiques. Over forty of the country’s top dealers present paintings, furniture, folk art, jewelry, and fine and decorative arts. Show Manager Diana H. Bittel, who is a distinguished antiques dealer and annual exhibitor, hand selects each dealer. Anne F. Hamilton of Newport and Philadelphia is the Show Chair; Honorary Chairs included Mrs. Robert H. Charles and Mrs. John R. Donnell.

The tumultuous days of the 1960's, including Woodstock,  were chronicled by guest lecturer Elliot Landy, who signed his books at Jessica Hagen Fine Art, adding a new time dimension to the  elegant show.

A tribute to Dorrance (Dodo) Hamilton

Entering to music by the Lois VaughanTrio, and an exhibition curated by architectural historian John Tschirch, guests walked through lanes of varied breathtaking booths, where "booth talks" were given on Saturday by various dealers. Champagne, wine and food stations were scattered throughout, and a hot buffet was delicious, as shoppers deliberated.
