Brazilian Polo Team Fêted at Newport Polo's Sassy Ball Carnaval

Heightening the evening, guests in Carnaval headresses: Billy Shaw, Robyn Holloway, Tom Brace, Mary Lou Cavanaugh,  & Tom Eberhardt

The Samba, the Bossa Nova, petroleum, the cuiro -- and now the Brazilian Polo Team joins the great exports of Brazil! The players came to town to do battle on the polo field with Newport's team and to dance and dine at Ball Carnaval, held at Rosecliff in their honor.

Inspired by the costumes of Rio de Janeiro's  famed Carnaval, an extravagantly wild celebration each February, the costumes at Newport's Ball Carnaval attained new heights, as the guests dressed in bold colors and enormous headdresses.

Host and hostess Dan and Agnes Keating welcomed guests, and the entire event benefited  Roger Williams Park Zoo. Harvey the Armadillo was among 10 zoo denizens in attendance, (also on hand were a Ball Python, tarantula, frog, porcupine, radiated tortoise, rainbow boa, red tail hawk, sto and tegu), and the dance floor did resemble a Carnaval Samba Club competition.

Live auction items included  a New England Patriots Game and Fan Package, and a Newport Polo Tailgate Party for 15.  The auction brought in thousands for the Zoo.  The silent auction items included fine items for the home, travel, jewelry, and sport and entertainment items.

The music was  not necessarily samba, but swinging, with the band Decades by Design playing during dinner, and beyond.
